After Life series 2: Ricky Gervais reveals he's started writing new season of hit show

Ricky Gervais has delighted fans by revealing he's started writing a second series of his hit Netflix series After Life .

The emotional show has been a huge hit with fans, with many admitting they laughed and cried most of the way through, and has been praised for its comedy and the way it handles bereavement.

The six-part show follows local reporter Tony, played by Gervais, as he struggles to adjust to life without his wife Lisa after she dies from cancer.

Thanking fans for their support and praise, the comedian announced there will be a second series.

He shared a photo from the TV show and wrote: "Thanks again for all the love for #AfterLife. I have never had a reaction like this.

"The reviews have been great but the response from viewers has been f****** amazing.

"And that means so much more to me. You are the best fans in the world."

"Oh, and I've started writing series 2."

Unsurprisingly fans are delighted to learn they'll get to see more of Tony's journey.

Speaking earlier this year, Gervais said: "I have always dealt with taboo subjects but probably more obviously comedically, and this is the most dramatic."

"It is tragic but it's still somehow funny all the way through, but then so was my mum's funeral - we were crying and then laughing at stuff, the speeches and stuff, and that is what humour is for.

"There is no better tool to get you through bad things, there is no better way to discuss bad things than with a sense of humour, it makes you bullet proof."
