After Life actress Diane Morgan will write, direct and star in brand new sitcom

Bolton comic Diane Morgan will star in a new comedy series that she has written and directed herself.

Morgan, 44, is probably best known for her comedy persona Philomena Cunk but has also appeared in Motherland and huge Ricky Gervais' Netflix hit After Life.

The Farnworth-born actress and comedian will now star in a brand new BBC sitcom called Mandy, which will premiere next month (August 2020).

Mandy, which is also written and directed by Morgan, is about a woman who dreams of breeding Doberman Pinchers.

During the series, titular character Mandy (played by Morgan) will go on a health kick, rent out her small back bedroom on Airbnb and attempt a series of short-lived jobs in the modern gig economy.

The cast features guest stars including Westhoughton actress Maxine Peake, Tom Basden (After Life), David Bradley (Game Of Thrones), Natalie Cassidy (EastEnders), and Sean Lock (8 Out Of 10 Cats).

They’ll join the regular cast of Michelle Greenidge (After Life), Alistair Green (Flowers), Mark Silcox (Man Like Mobeen), and Michael Spicer (The Mash Report).

The series will be six episodes, each 15 minutes in length.

It starts next month on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
