After Jadeveon Clowney trade, Seahawks climb in NFL power rankings

The Seattle Seahawks executed a whopper of a deal Saturday, when they traded Brakevious Mingo, Jacob Martin and a 2020 third-round draft selection to the Houston Texans for Pro Bowl, pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

The move bumped Seattle into the top 10 of Touchdown Wire’s NFL Week 1 power rankings.

“It’s a major time of transition in the Pacific Northwest,” writes Doug Farrar. “Receiver Doug Baldwin, formerly the alpha dog of the offense, retired. Earl Thomas signed with the Ravens, and that was the last member of the Legion of Boom to walk out the door.”

“Seattle hasn’t managed to overcome the receiver depth issues following Baldwin’s retirement, but the addition via trade of Texans pass-rushing star Jadeveon Clowney–who they got for a third-round pick and a couple of backup linebackers–makes this defense formidable even with a questionable secondary,” Farrar continued.

The Seahawks are set to open the regular season Sunday, Sept. 8, against the Bengals at CenturyLink Field.
