Maharashtra: After HSC, race for competitive exams begins

PUNE: The focus of all higher secondary certificate (HSC, Std XII) students has now shifted to the all-important joint entrance examination (JEE) in July followed by the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MH-CET) in August first week.

Students have begun revision sessions and appearing for mock tests either at home or in coaching classes in the run-up to the entrance exam for admissions to the coveted engineering and other professional courses.

Aspirant Rishabh Katiyar said, “After the results, I am now completely focussed on the entrance tests. I have enrolled for four engineering entrances and I am spending nearly 15 hours studying for those exams. The relief is that I know my Std XII score so there is no worry about it.”

Exams for admissions to design, architecture, law, management, mass communication, pure science, and other disciplines will also be conducted for which students have to prepare.

Shreya Bhagwat, a Std XII CBSE student, said she is planning to take admission to the biotechnology course at the Savitribai Phule Pune University and the entrance is scheduled in July. “I am preparing for the exam as I am very interested in this course and I hope I get the seat,” she said.

Many other students are also preparing for universities abroad for courses after Std XII. Riya Sen, a Std XII student of Fergusson College, said, “I have deep interest in environmental studies and am applying to some universities in Canada and the US. The process of application has begun and I have received some responses from the university officials. I am also looking for a scholarship at these universities to finalise my seat.”
