After goats, water tankers

No doubt buoyed by its success at putting goats on a par with iPods as the desirable Christmas presents of 2004, Oxfam has extended to principle of online shopping for charitable gifts to its Indian Ocean tsunami appeal. Rather than simply giving money you can use the Oxfam Unwrapped to send six mosquito nets (£45) or 10 hygiene kits (£60) to help guard against disease among the survivors. A donation of £100 will feed four families for a month and £120 can buy five emergency shelters. Sports teams, businesses and clubs may even want to pool resources to donate £2,160 to fund a 45,000-litre water tanker or £13,250 to buy a 4x4 vehicle to transport the aid.
