PUNE: The civic body plans constant monitoring of green belt and blue line in the city after recent anti-encroachment action at Mhatre bridge.
Fortnightly visits will now be conducted to check on unauthorised constructions at chronic spots. “Special teams have been formed to keep an eye on these areas. Construction activity for commercial purposes is restricted here. Even then, it is carried out. Monitoring will help curb it immediately,” said Kunal Khemnar, additional commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
According to PMC officials, only agriculture-related activities and construction are allowed in the green zone. However, landowners here have come up with restaurants, lawns and marriage halls, which are not allowed.
The civic administration on Wednesday carried out a major anti-encroachment drive at the popular eat-out destination on the DP road near Mhatre bridge.
“PMC had taken the guidance of the law department for finalising the green belt and restricted zones. Action was taken after filing caveats,” said Bipin Shinde, a senior official of the PMC building permissions department.
The red line is based on the maximum water level — possibly once in 100 years — whereas the blue line is as per maximum flood discharge in 25 years. The prohibited zones are between two blue lines on either side of a river, like the Mula and Mutha. The restricted zone is the area between the blue line and red line.
Baner, Yerawada, Karvenagar, Deccan, Sangamwadi and Sinhagad Road are near these zones, where frequent monitoring will now be done.
