After a transcendent season debut for the Boston Celtics, All-Star forward Jaylen Brown was noticeably more than a few steps slower than even his usual self, and speaking to the media after practice on Friday, the Georgia native confirmed at least some of it has to do with his recovery from a bout with COVID-19.
Brown’s 46 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists against the New York Knicks in the Celtics’ season opener gave many hope that the Cal-Berkeley product had largely dodged a bullet when it came to the lingering issues that plagued teammate Jayson Tatum after his fellow star forward came down with the viral malady last season. But his uneven and at times downright bad play over the team’s next four games hinted that might not be the case, which the Celtics forward opened up about to the press when asked if COVID might be partly to blame.
“I think so,” explained Brown. “I’ve noticed in the last couple of days — four games for me now — that my body hasn’t recovered the same.”
