After bus commuters protest, Dadar station area cleared of illegal hawkers

MUMBAI: Following complaints and protests from bus commuters, the BMC and police cleared the area outside Dadar railway station (west) of illegal hawkers on Tuesday morning.

This ensured that red AC mini buses would be able to ply up to their final stop near Dadar railway station to pick up and drop passengers. A day earlier, the BEST had curtailed its services limiting them to Kabutar Khana as buses were unable to access M C Jawale Road outside Dadar station to reach the final bus stop.

“It was unfortunate that we had to short terminate the route A-118, which operates between Worli village and Dadar station, on Monday morning,” said BEST spokesperson Manoj Varade, adding that this was done as the entire road was filled with illegal hawkers and shoppers because of the festive season.

Kiran Dighavkar, asssistant municipal commissioner, G-North ward, said that action was being taken against hawkers as the area up to 100 metres outside the station is ‘no hawking zone’.
