After 1,784 days in Liverpool kennels Dodger is 'unrecognisable' as he finally has a loving home

After spending four years and 10 months, 'a firm favourite' dog in a Liverpool rescue centre has finally found a place he can call home.

Dodger, an eight-year-old Lurcher, spent a good chunk of his life at Freshfields Animal Rescue centre after he came to them from a local veterinary surgery where he was taken to be put to sleep.

Unfortunately, his owner's circumstances changed and they could no longer care for him.

But now for the last year he has been living a new life with a loving family.

At the time, the centre described how Dodger hardly received any adoption inquiries until last December when a family took a chance on him.

The charity explained to TeamDogs : "It was an amazing moment when he finally went to live with his forever family. He is doing better than we could of wished for.

"As a team we can only hope moments like this come along and we are so grateful this boy finally got his.

"If Dodger's story can teach us anything, it's that these dogs just need somebody to take a chance on them.

"It takes one person to change their lives and give them the future they all deserve."

The canine was once deemed as dog aggressive but the centre say it was just a shock to Dodger's system and he needed time to adapt to his new surroundings.

After a few days, he began to make friends with the help of doggy biscuits and a ball but the once nervous dog is hardly recognisable now in his new home.

A spokesperson explained how Dodger's nature has seen an improvement since settling in with his new family: "It was never going to be an easy journey, he had his issues in kennels but he has come on leaps and bounds since leaving us.

"He has now made lots of pals and is loving his life of freedom with his people."
