Afonwen laundry 'watching developments' as waits to see how hospitality sector bounces back

A laundry group which employs around 200 people in Gwynedd said it "watching developments closely" as it waits to see how the hospitality sector bounces back from lockdown.

Johnsons Hotel Linen by Afonwen is part of the Johnson Service Group and includes a large laundry at Afon Wen, near Pwllheli.

With the Covid-19 pandemic closing hotels and restaurants the company used furlough to address the sudden drop in business.

Now as Wales slowly emerges from lockdown it is watching how the sector performs before deciding on any future action.

A spokesman for the Johnson Service Group released a statement on behalf of Johnsons Hotel Linen managing director Mark Woolfenden.

It said: "As is public knowledge, hotel restaurant and catering businesses throughout the UK have been severely impacted by COVID-19.

"We have undertaken the right procedures to address this and have furloughed a number of our staff.

"At this stage, given that openings have only been allowed in Wales starting on 11 July, there is little clarity as to how the hotels, restaurants and catering markets are going to perform over the coming months.

"At this stage we are watching developments closely and as yet are taking no action.”
