Afobe, Wells or Diedhiou - Pick your Bristol City team to face Blackburn Rovers

When Bristol City take to the field against Blackburn Rovers at 3pm next Saturday it will be 105 days removed from their last Championship fixture.

For context, based on the 2018/19 season finishing on May 5, that's the equivalent of then kicking-off again on August 18. Therefore, how quickly a team can hit the ground running could prove vital in the final make-up of the Championship.

City are concentrating on securing a top-six berth and the chance to extend this mini-season from nine games to 12 with a place in the play-offs, with just one point separating the Robins and Preston North End in sixth.

Lee Johnson's side appear to be entering this final straight in better shape than when they entered it with Benik Afobe returning to training after an eight-month absence due to an ACL injury.

The City head coach should finally have have a fully-fit Tomas Kalas and Adam Nagy to call on, with the pair having sustained niggly injuries and complications surrounding them throughout the 2019/20 season.

Over their last five trips to Ewood Park, City have won one, lost two and drawn two, scoring four and conceding seven, emphasising how tight matches between these two teams tend to be.

Trying to forecast a Johnson XI is never straightforward at the best of times but with the extra options on the table, it makes for an even more complex exercise.
