AFLW star Harris searching for new club

High-profile AFLW player Tayla Harris is no certainty to find a new club during the competition's trade period.

The three-time All-Australian is on the outer at Carlton, with the Blues baulking at Harris' demand for a new lucrative contract.

Harris is coming off the worst season of her five-year career, having been dropped from the team for a week.

But Harris, through her manager Alex Saundry, has argued she is worth just as much to the game through her marketability off the field.

The key forward is believed to be pursuing a deal worth $150,000 for next year.

The 24-year-old is arguably the most recognisable face in the AFLW, skyrocketing into cultural significance on the back of a photograph of her kicking for goal in 2019.

But AFL Media has reported a number of clubs, including Adelaide, Fremantle, Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs, have already ruled themselves out of pursuing Harris.

Saundry has raised the idea of Harris spending a season out of football to focus on her boxing career should no substantial offer arise.

Originally from Queensland, Harris played for reigning premiers Brisbane in 2017 before making the move to Carlton the following year.

Harris' former Lions teammate, Sabrina Frederick, will also be on the move as she prepares to cross from Richmond to Collingwood.

The AFLW's sign and trade period began on Monday, with Frederick's switch to the Magpies a fait accompli after two seasons at Punt Rd.

In a huge blow for Geelong, star Olivia Purcell has requested a trade to Melbourne and the clubs will try to organise a deal for the All-Australian.
