Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli has been cleared of structural damage to his injured knee but is in a race against time to prove his fitness for their AFL preliminary final against Port Adelaide.
The Bulldogs on Monday ruled out livewire forward Cody Weightman after he suffered a head knock and was substituted out of last Saturday night's thrilling semi-final win over Brisbane.
But Bontempelli, who hurt his right knee in an awkward landing from a marking contest in the same game, remains a chance to take on the Power at Adelaide Oval this Saturday night.
"In the last minutes of the game, Marcus landed and had his knee twisted," Bulldogs head of sports medicine Chris Bell said.
"Scans have cleared him of any serious structural damage, but he does have some symptoms related to the injury.
"We'll work with Marcus through the back end of this week to determine his availability."
Weightman is a chance to play in the grand final on September 25 if the Bulldogs advance.
"During the halftime break we made the decision to remove him from the game," Bell said.
"Subsequent testing has confirmed he does have some low-level concussion symptoms.
"He won't play this week, but we'll monitor Cody in the next couple of days to determine his availability."
