Ryan who? Nyhuis kicks four on debut in Freo win
Unheralded debutant Ryan Nyhuis has helped Fremantle overcome North Melbourne in a tense final quarter to win by four points at Docklands.
The Dockers led for almost the entire day, but the Kangaroos overhauled them at the 18-minute mark of the final term and looked set to go on to win.
However the Dockers found another gear to hit back, and they sealed victory by 13.8 (86) to 12.10 (82) after Todd Goldstein's last set shot went wide with seconds left.
Ross Lyon's men led by 19 points at quarter-time, and maintained the same lead at the main break.
But the Kangaroos cut the margin to just eight points with one period to go, and then they dominated the final term to take the lead.
Fremantle was not finished, however. Defender Nyhuis, an emergency who was a late inclusion before the game, had never played forward before.
But he played out of his skin and kicked two goals in time on — a total of four for the game — to put the Dockers back in front.
A free kick to Todd Goldstein for a ruck infringement with seconds left looked to have handed victory to North. But Goldstein pulled his kick to the right, and Fremantle hung on to win.
Ben Brown led the way for North with four goals. Aside from Nyhuis Michael Walters maintained his strong form with three goals for the Dockers.
The Kangaroos have had a disappointing season, winning only four games out of 15. The Dockers now rise to 12th on the ladder with their seventh win of the season.
