Dons outlast Dockers to grab finals spot
Essendon has sealed a spot in the AFL finals with a xx-point win over Fremantle on Sunday afternoon.
The Bombers led all day, but had to withstand a second-half challenge from the Dockers before prevailing by 16.11 (107) to 14.7 (91) at Docklands.
Zach Merrett and James Stewart kicked four each for the Bombers, while six players including Nat Fyfe and Matt Taberner booted two each for the Dockers.
The Bombers will now go into an elimination final next weekend.
Fremantle managed to avoid a third-straight thrashing after successive 104-point defeats to Sydney and Richmond, but the Dockers' season ends with eight wins.
