We’ve been swept up in Bailey Smith and Tammy Hembrow’s romance for weeks, and now it seems the pair’s relationship has caught the attention of AFL CEO Andrew Dillon.
ICYMI, the Geelong Cats player and influencer have been at the centre of romance rumours since early August, when they were spotted sharing a meal together in the Gold Coast.
Comments from Hembrow’s ex, cryptic TikTok videos and an Instagram soft launch have followed, but we’ve now gotten fresh updates courtesy of the AFL’s top dog.

Per the Herald Sun, Dillon — who has been the CEO of the league since 2023 — made reference to the couple during his speech at a dinner function at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.
While mentioning Smith’s recent Champion Player of the Year Award win, Dillon recalled giving Smith “relationship advice” earlier this year that might just have led to his new flame.
“When I went down to visit Bailey earlier this year there was a little bit of speculation — what did we actually chat about?” Dillon said.
“In the end I was really just there to give him relationship advice, and by what I’ve been reading recently, I think it worked better than we thought it might have.”
After taking partial credit for the pair’s budding romance (I too need whatever advice he suggested), Dillon went on to mention Tammy directly when addressing her absence at the event.

“To the buoyant people that asked on the way into the room is Tammy here? No, she’s not, but we do have [Smith’s] parents Nick and Sinead,” Dillon said.
“Thank you for giving us Bailey and everything that he gives us,” he added.
Dillon’s quips about his supposed matchmaking status reportedly drew laughter from the audience, which included Smith’s parents as well as his manager, Paul Connors.
Cupid skills aside, Dillon’s speech comes at a tumultuous time for the AFL, with the CEO defending the decision to enlist Snoop Dogg as the grand final headliner amid backlash over his past homophobic comments.
“We cannot vouch for every lyric, in every song, ever written or performed, by any artist who has or will appear on our stage,” Dillon said of Snoop, who is set to take to the grand final stage later this month as the controversy over Izak Rankine’s four-match ban swirls.

It remains to be seen whether Snoop will be replaced, as some rumours have suggested, but at least we’ll have the (arguably more entertaining) side-show that is Smith and Hembrow’s romance.
