25 years after the men’s Aussie rules football league was launched in London, the first women’s league will finally off kick in April. The Wandsworth Demons, the South East London Giants, the Wimbledon Hawks and the North London Lions will all field competitive women’s teams this season. Interest in the game is growing in Britain, with England’s first national women’s team, the Vixens, winning silver at last year’s Axios AFL Euro cup after a well contested final against defending champions the Irish Banshees. So whether you are actively playing in a men’s AFL league or have joined one of the London based AFL clubs ahead of the new women’s league season, we’d like to hear from anyone playing and following AFL across the country.
The new AFL Premiership season in Australia gets started in April, so now’s the perfect time to ask you to share your Aussie rules photos and memories with us, wherever you are in the world. The US AFL will also be underway by the end of this month, emphasising the global reach of the sport.
Are you currently living in London and hope to play actively for one of the teams in the new women’s league? Or maybe you are already an avid Aussie rules fan who will be following every kick of the new AFL season? Whether a Wimbledon Hawk residing in London, a New York Magpies fan or a Western Bulldog from Melbourne, we would like you to share your photos, experiences and memories of the sport with us, at training or on game day, from wherever you are in the world.
