Afghans contest Straw's order

Twenty Afghans, some parents and their children, have lodged an official appeal against their deportation, which was ordered by the home secretary, Jack Straw, after the Stansted airport siege last month.

The Immigration Advisory Service announced the appeal yesterday; the case is expected to take some months. After the peaceful conclusion, 15 Afghans were charged with hijack, 27 asked for asylum, and the rest elected to go back.
