Afghanistan vs New Zealand Test delayed again due to wet outfield

The one-off Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand near New Delhi faced another delay on Tuesday due to overnight rain.

The opening day of the match, held at Afghanistan's adopted home ground in Greater Noida, was washed out on Monday because of a wet outfield.

Despite clear skies this morning, the outfield remains damp after ten days of rain. Umpires plan to inspect the field around 12 noon (IST) to determine if play can start. The venue, hosting its first Test match, lacks a proper drainage system.

The ground staff are addressing a persistent wet patch in the mid-on area by covering it with artificial grass. Afghanistan, who have hosted several T20Is and one-day internationals at this venue since 2017, have limited world-class facilities.

Following this game, Tim Southee's New Zealand will travel to Sri Lanka for two Tests before returning for three-Test series against India.
