Afghan students in Himachal Pradesh assured help

SHIMLA: After their country fell into the hands of Taliban once more, the Afghan students in Himachal Pradesh are worried about their future. Shimla’s Himachal Pradesh University and Nauni’s Dr Y S Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF) have promised them help with their expenses and visa extension.

There are eight Afghan students in Nauni’s PhD, MSc and MBA programmes,14 at HPU, and 19 in a private university of Shimla. Those at Nauni are on the Indian Council for Agricultural Research fellowship, and while affording the tuition fee is not a problem for them, the expiring visa is a big worry.

An official from the university said the institute had forwarded a few Afghan students’ request for help with visa extension.
