TEHRAN -- An Afghan boy in Kabul has been named after Japanese doctor Tetsu Nakamura who was killed in Afghanistan in December.
The baby's family named him "Nakamura" to inherit the will of the late doctor who was the local representative of the nongovernmental organization Peshawar-kai.
"I want him to grow into a person who commits himself to developing the country," the boy's father, Samiullah, said in a telephone interview with The Yomiuri Shimbun.

The boy is the second-eldest son of Samiullah, 39, who operates a hotel in the Afghan capital. The boy was born on Dec. 6, two days after Nakamura, 73, was killed by an armed group in Jalalabad. Samiullah hails from eastern Afghanistan where Nakamura opened clinics and assisted local farming. He said he was heartbroken at the Japanese doctor's death.
In Afghanistan, many of Nakamura's projects remain unfinished, such as the development of irrigation canals, for which he died without realizing.
"I want my Nakamura to become involved in the projects when he grows up. And I want him to carry over Dr. Nakamura's will," Samiullah said.
