AFC Wimbledon 0-3 Sunderland player ratings as Wyke finishing proves vital

Sunderland couldn't have asked for a better start at Plough Lane this afternoon, with Charlie Wyke's goal giving them the lead after just seven minutes.

And while they had to wait for the victory to be confirmed, it was that man Wyke who sealed the three points with a late double to earn his hat-trick

The Black Cats striker was on hand to turn home Aiden O'Brien's cross after good work from Elliot Embleton to put the visitors into the lead.

Sunderland had chances to increase their lead through Embleton and Wyke, while at the other end, Lee Burge was largely untroubled.

The second half was an uninspiring affair, with neither keepers seeing much action.

However, Wyke got on the end of a Grant Leadbitter corner to cap an important away win for Sunderland.

The No 9 then completed his hat-trick with a fine finish following Josh Scowen's through ball.

Here's how James Hunter rated the Sunderland players.

LEE BURGE 6

One good stop from a long-range Rudoni shot, otherwise mainly just routine saves

MAX POWER 6

Did well defensively and got forward more in the second half

JORDAN WILLIS 7

Excellent on his return to League action

BAILEY WRIGHT 7

Won everything in the air

CALLUM McFADZEAN 6

Did a solid job at left-back

JOSH SCOWEN 6

Didn’t stand out, but did provide the assist for Wyke’s third goal

GRANT LEADBITTER 7

Full of industry and his corner saw Wyke score his second to give Sunderland breathing space

ELLIOT EMBLETON 7

A few neat touches and did well in the build-up to the first goal

AIDEN O’BRIEN 7

Linked up well with Wyke, and it was his assist for the opener

AIDEN McGEADY 5

Gave the ball away time and again, offered little threat, and it was no surprise to see him subbed

CHARLIE WYKE 9

Scored three and could have ended up with more. Wimbledon couldn’t handle him

SUBS

CARL WINCHESTER 6

For Embleton 58mins. A decent debut and no doubt there is more to come from him

JACK DIAMOND 7

For McGeady 72mins. Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, but the post denied him

CHRIS MAGUIRE 6

For O’Brien 81mins. Not much time to make an impact

NOT USED: Matthews, O’Nien, Sanderson, Younger
