AFC Wimbledon given extension to find £11m for new stadium

AFC Wimbledon have an extra month to raise the £11million to complete their move back to Plough Lane after agreeing a contract extension with contractor Buckingham.

Originally the club had until the end of January to find the money to finish the 9,000-seat stadium so they can move in for next season but they now have until the conclusion of February.

Outside investment is an option to raising funds and three Wimbledon-based businessmen have offered £7.5m for 30 per cent of the club, which is owned by its supporters.

The Dons Trust is split over whether the offer is a good idea — and a vote on the matter is planned — but before that an online survey will be conducted to see how much support there would be for an official proposal.

Another solution put forward to raising money is fans being able to buy bonds in the club.
