AFC Wimbledon could net £1m windfall from Millwall FA Cup tie

AFC Wimbledon could net a windfall of close to £1million if they beat Millwall in the FA Cup.

Wimbledon face the Lions at Kingsmeadow in the fifth round on February 16.

The Dons would earn £360,000 in prize money for reaching the quarter-finals, plus there is £200,000 on offer for the League One team that go furthest in the competition.

Doncaster are the only other team from League One left in the draw. If both teams exit at the same stage, the money will be shared.

By reaching the last eight, Wimbledon would earn upwards of £250,000 for television coverage.

The windfall would make up for the £250,000 they have missed out on as a result of the Millwall game being the only fifth-round tie not to be shown live.

Wimbledon last reached the FA Cup fifth round in 2001-02 while Millwall are looking to match their run to the quarter-finals of two years ago.
