We’re already into Week 4 of the NFL season, but we’re going to take a look back at Week 3 in the AFC West.
It was another good week for the Chiefs, with each of the other teams in the division losing their matchups. That means the Chiefs are the only undefeated team and currently have a two-game lead on the AFC West. Here’s a look at the standings through the three weeks of play:
| Place | Record | Team | Next Opponent |
| 1 | 3-0 | Kansas City Chiefs | at Detroit Lions |
| T-2 | 1-2 | Los Angeles Chargers | at Miami Dolphins |
| T-2 | 1-2 | Oakland Raiders | at Indianapolis Colts |
| 4 | 0-3 | Denver Broncos | vs. Jacksonville Jaguars |
Let’s take a look at the Chiefs’ AFC West opponents and some of their top performers from Week 3:

Denver Broncos
Peak performers:
- RB Philip Lindsay – 25 touches for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
- DE/LB Bradley Chubb – Five tackles, three tackles for loss, and a QB hit.
- CB De’Vante Bausby – Three tackles and two passes defended.
The Denver Broncos live in a world of suck, or at least that’s what WR Emmanuel Sanders says. He’s not exactly wrong, though. Expectations were high coming into this season for a Vic Fangio coached defense and they’ve largely disappointed. On the offensive side of the ball, the failure to adapt to the pass-first NFL has really hampered the Broncos’ ability to win football games. During Week 4 they face a hot Jaguars team at home during a week when each other AFC West team goes on the road. This is the epitome of a must-win game from the Broncos to avoid dropping to 0-4 on the season.

Los Angeles Chargers
Peak performers:
- WR Keenan Allen – 13 receptions for 183 yards and two touchdowns.
- QB Philip Rivers – 31-of-46 passing for 318 yards and two touchdowns.
- CB Desmond King – Four tackles, one QB hit, one pass defended and one fumble recovery.
The Los Angeles Chargers have choked away game-winning opportunities in back-to-back weeks. Rivers knows his postseason chances are fading with every slip-up and friendly player added to the injury list. The team should get an extra boost with the return of Melvin Gordon, but that won’t help the lack of receiver depth and secondary struggles. In Week 4, the Chargers will get the deplorable Miami Dolphins on the road. If they can’t manage a victory this week, the problems might be too big to overcome.

Oakland Raiders
Peak performers:
- TE Darren Waller – 13 receptions for 134 yards.
- S Karl Joseph – 8 tackles
After their second-quarter against the Chiefs in Week 2, all the air seems to have been sucked out of the room for the Oakland Raiders. They started the season with such confidence and they’ve now spiraled back down to earth. The defense, in particular, struggled to contain this Minnesota Vikings rushing attack in Week 3. Dalvin Cook had a monster game on the ground. With their second consecutive road game, the Raiders will need to make some significant adjustments in order to come away with a victory against the Indianapolis Colts.
