We’re already into Week 3 of the NFL season, but we’re going to take a look back at Week 2 in the AFC West. It was a good week for the Chiefs with every other team in the division losing their matchup. That means the Chiefs are the only undefeated team and currently lead the AFC West. Here’s a look at the standings through the two weeks of play:
| Place | Record | Team | Next Opponent |
| 1 | 2-0 | Kansas City Chiefs | vs. Baltimore Ravens |
| T-2 | 1-1 | Los Angeles Chargers | vs. Houston Texans |
| T-2 | 1-1 | Oakland Raiders | at Minnesota Vikings |
| 4 | 0-2 | Denver Broncos | at Green Bay Packers |
Let’s take a look at the Chiefs’ AFC West opponents and some of their top performers from Week 2:

Denver Broncos
Peak performers:
- WR Emmanuel Sanders – 11 receptions for 98 receiving yards and a touchdown.
- RB Royce Freeman – 16 touches for 102 scrimmage yards.
- DB Justin Simmons – Nine tackles and two passes defended.
The Broncos lost a close one against the Chicago Bears in their home opener. It was a bit of a crushing defeat for Vic Fangio, who came to the Broncos from the Bears. They looked better prepared to play a football game this week, but the Broncos don’t look like a good team.
One thing that is just insanely bizarre is that Fangio is known as a defensive guy and his star pass rushers in Von Miller and Bradley Chubb have been held without sacks through two games. John Elway may not be concerned with how they’ve started this season, but things are beginning to look grim for any immediate success.

Los Angeles Chargers
Peak performers:
- RB Austin Ekeler – 23 touches for 133 scrimmage yards and one touchdown.
- WR Keenan Allen – Eight receptions (on 15 targets) for 98 receiving yards.
- CB Casey Hayward – Three tackles and one interception.
The Chokers — I mean the Chargers — lost a close match to the Detroit Lions. The Chargers would truly have a lot of things going for them, but this team is the most injury cursed franchise in recent memory. This week they dealt with an injury to their starting kicker and the backup was not good.
A bunch of mistakes in the second half cost them a chance to win the game. It started with a fumble from Austin Ekeler on the goal line and then a doinked field goal. Next up came a Philip Rivers interception thrown into double coverage in the fourth quarter and that’d do it.
Luckily, this loss came against an NFC team. It won’t hurt them too much, but they’ll have to make up ground in the standings if they want to best the Chiefs in the AFC West.

Oakland Raiders
Peak performers:
- TE Darren Waller – six receptions for 63 receiving yards.
- RB Josh Jacobs – 12 attempts for 99 rushing yards.
- DE Benson Mayowa – Three tackles, 1.5 sacks, one tackle for loss and two QB hits.
The Chiefs really gave the Raiders a difficult time in all facets of their Week 2 matchup. The Raiders came into the game playing confidently but after the second quarter, they realized the Chiefs were just on a whole different level.
After the game, Jon Gruden was left praising the Chiefs, giving them big credit for how they played. He explained that you simply have to be prepared to defend every single blade of grass when you play the Chiefs. The Raiders aren’t quite there yet, but this is still a much better Raiders team than the Chiefs are used to playing.
