AFC West report for Week 4: Chiefs with unfamiliar view from the bottom

If you simply gave people the records of all the AFC West teams after three weeks, they would almost certainly have guessed the teams that go with those records completely wrong. Most likely the positions would have flipped from what they actually are.

But here we are, with the AFC West looking like this:

1. Las Vegas Raiders 3-0 (0-0, 3-0)
2. Denver Broncos 3-0 (0-0, 2-0)
3. Los Angeles Chargers 2-1 (1-0, 1-0)
4. Kansas City Chiefs 1-2 (0-1, 1-2)

There is still a long way to go, but after three games, it is still a stunner to see the Chiefs sitting squarely at the bottom of the division.

Most people probably would have thought the Raiders and Broncos would be in the third and fourth spots, but both teams are undefeated thus far. The Raiders are especially a surprise considering they’ve played three teams that each had double-digit win totals last season.

The only AFC West matchup so far was last week between the Chiefs and Chargers and the Chargers whooped the Chiefs with Justin Herbert throwing four touchdown passes.

That Chiefs defense is now ranked 31st in points allowed and 30th in yards allowed. It wasn’t expected to be great, but perhaps not this bad. They will have their best chance to pull out of their tailspin this week against the 1-2 Eagles.

The Chargers will have a shot at moving up to the top of the division this week when the Raiders come to LA on Monday Night Football. While a Raiders win would keep them on top with their first division win under their belts and a fourth conference win.

Here’s this week’s division schedule:

Chiefs at Philadelphia Eagles (1-2)
Baltimore Ravens (2-1) at Broncos
Raiders at Chargers (MNF)
