AFC South ranks last in CBS Sports’ divisional RB rankings

It’s safe to say the Tennessee Titans have been pleased with running back Derrick Henry’s most recent performances.

But at least one analyst doesn’t think too highly of the AFC South’s group of rushers as a whole.

CBS Sports’ Sean Wagner-McGough placed the division dead-last when he ranked groups of running backs by division in a recent article.

“The Colts, Texans, and Titans all own better backfields than the Jaguars,” he wrote. “Marlon Mack has the best chance to emerge as a star in 2019 after racking up 1,011 yards and 10 touchdowns from scrimmage in a 12-game season. Lamar Miller has been consistent for a while now with five straight 1,000-yard seasons (from scrimmage). Derrick Henry is coming off the best season of his career while Dion Lewis is a worthwhile sidekick.”

To place higher, Wagner-McGough believes the division needs a true standout back.

And Henry could be just the guy to do it.

“What the AFC South is lacking in is star power,” he wrote. “That could change during the upcoming season if Mack and Henry continue their ascent, but neither of those ascents should be regarded as a sure thing.”

Henry is a good candidate to become the star of the AFC South, as the Titans look for continuity in what could be an extremely strong ground game.

Henry also had a prolific season in 2018, recording 215 carries for 1,059 yards and 12 touchdowns.

If he can carry that momentum into the coming season, special things are in store for both him and the Titans’ offense.
