AFC South odds: Jags still have third-best odds to win division

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ odds to win the AFC South this season have improved quite a bit following the first week of free agency. Per the current betting lines from Tipico Sportsbook, Jacksonville has the third-best odds to win the division at +600 behind the Tennessee Titans (+110) and Indianapolis Colts (+125). The Jaguars also increased their lead over the Houston Texans who still sit at +2000.

It’s not shocking to see the Jaguars’ odds improve after they signed seven free agents who will likely become significant contributors like former Washington Commanders guard Brandon Scherff, former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Christian Kirk and former Atlanta Falcons linebacker Foyesade Oluokun.

Scherff will add some much-needed protection for second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence, while Kirk provides the former rookie with another weapon along with free-agent wide receiver Zay Jones and tight end Evan Engram.

Houston still has quite a deficit behind the Jaguars due to the uncertainty surrounding the franchise. The Texans made a fairly uninspiring head coaching hire in Lovie Smith, but their quarterback Davis Mills was arguably the best rookie at the position last season.

Over the weekend, the Colts got a lot better and the odds reflect that after they traded for former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. His best days are most likely behind him, but he’s a significant upgrade over Carson Wentz.

The Tennessee Titans haven’t made any major splashes during free agency but remain the favorite because they have won the last two division titles.

However, the NFL is unpredictable from year-to-year, and the Jaguars could always surprise the league and walk away with the 2022 AFC South crown.
