AFC North watch: the Bengals have some serious health issues at WR

So far, through the first few days of training camp, the Cleveland Browns have been pretty fortunate on the injury front. The same cannot be said for Cleveland’s in-state division rival, the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bengals took a huge hit when star wide receiver A.J. Green tore ligaments in his ankle in their first practice session. He will be out for 6-8 weeks, which means the injury will carry over into the regular season.

Cincinnati and Cleveland do not meet until later in the season, so the perennial Pro Bowler should be back by that time. But it’s a big blow for a rebuilding Bengals team and new head coach Zac Taylor.

Another Bengals WR, John Ross, is missing camp with a nagging hamstring injury. Ross has struggled to stay on the field throughout his two-year NFL career, and Year 3 is off to a rough start.

The Bengals recently signed WR Tyler Boyd to a big new contract. Right now Boyd — primarily the team’s slot receiver — is joined in the starting lineup by the likes of Cody Core and Josh Malone.
