AFC North watch: Bengals bench Andy Dalton for Ryan Finley

Desperate times call for more desperate measures than sticking with Andy Dalton at quarterback and hoping for the best. The Cincinnati Bengals have finally hit that tipping point and will bench the veteran starter.

Multiple reports indicate the Bengals are benching Dalton — on his 32nd birthday, no less — for rookie Ryan Finley, effective immediately. Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network was the first to report the unexpected, but not exactly surprising, move from the Browns’ AFC North rival.

The Bengals are winless in 2019 and currently hold the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft order. Dalton has completed 60.4 percent of his passes and has tossed nine TDs against eight INTs through their eight losses. He currently leads the NFL in both attempts and completions.

Finley is a fourth-round rookie from North Carolina State who excelled at the Senior Bowl. He also played collegiately at Boise State. He has never played a regular-season snap.
