The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has handed Thailand U23 striker Supachai Chaided a two-game ban, effective immediately.
The AFC has informed the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) that the Buriram United star will have to sit out the War Elephants' first two games in the AFC U23 Championship in Thailand next year.
As regional foes Vietnam headed to a massive 4-0 win in the Asian U23 qualifiers in Hanoi last month, Thailand players and fans were left red-faced.
The frustration showed and Supachai appeared to punch an opponent in a fit of rage in the second half of the match.
The 20-year-old from Pattani was given a red card straightaway for punching Tran Dinh Trong. He later apologised to fans for his ludicrous act.
But he hasn't got away with it, as the AFC has now banned the striker for two matches while also fining him US$1000 (around 31,820 baht) as a consequence of his actions.
This means that he will miss the first two games of the 2020 AFC U23 Championship and it could severely dash his side's chances in the tournament as a result.
However, in addition to this, Supachai has been informed that a repeat offence of such nature could be dealt with even more severe punishment in the future.
