AFC executive believes Kirk Cousins and Bill Belichick team up in Atlanta

Recently, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler spoke to a number of people in NFL circles to get their predictions for the 2024 NFL season. These people included NFL executives, scouts, and other personnel, and they had some very interesting things to say about how next year may play out. One of the predictions directly impacts the Minnesota Vikings and the future of their quarterback, Kirk Cousins.

In speaking to an NFL executive with an AFC team, they floated the idea that Cousins would leave the Vikings. Not only would he be leaving the Vikings, but this executive predicts that Cousins will team up with legendary head coach Bill Belichick down in Atlanta with the Falcons. Here’s the full prediction:

The feeling out of New England was that Belichick planned to target an established veteran quarterback for the Patriots in 2024. If he gets the Atlanta job, as some expect, he can follow a similar blueprint.

Cousins might very well re-sign with Minnesota, but if not, the Falcons offer several high-end skill players on offense and an improving defense — they’re the proverbial quarterback away. “[Belichick] can help a talented yet underachieving team, and Atlanta is that,” an AFC executive said. “Cousins would be a great fit there.”

Cousins is a free agent and coming off a torn Achilles’ tendon, so it would be a risk for any team to sign him. Minnesota got a look at all of the quarterbacks on the roster behind Cousins, and none were particularly impressive.

Losing Cousins in the offseason would be a major blow and would force the team to come up with a plan for the position rather quickly or risk wasting another year of star wide receiver Justin Jefferson’s prime.
