AFC East Week 2 recap and standings: Dolphins stand alone

The NFL is back, as all 32 teams were in action for a Week 2 slate that included a mix of wildly entertaining duels and downright duds.

After two weeks, the AFC East has just one team sitting undefeated at the top of the division, as the Miami Dolphins are 2-0.

Mike McDaniel’s team defeated the New England Patriots on Sunday night 24-17 at Gillette Stadium. They showed an improved defensive strategy, holding the Patriots to under 100 yards on the ground after allowing over 200 to the Chargers the week before. Miami’s offense didn’t look as impressive as Week 1, but New England presented some different defensive looks and Tua Tagovailoa was still able to keep his unbeaten streak against the Patriots alive.

New England will need to win in Week 3 to avoid a dread 0-3 hole that they might not be able to dig themselves out of. To do so, their offensive line will need to play much better and give Mac Jones the time to go through his progressions and make the right read.

After the Las Vegas Raiders went up 7-0 on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, some were probably questioning whether or not Josh Allen and company were starting to sink. However, the offense woke up, and Buffalo ended up winning 38-10 with three touchdowns and a 124.5 passer rating from Allen. As long as he’s right, and there’s a balanced rushing attack, they should succeed.

The New York Jets, following an impressive defeat of the Bills in their season opener despite losing Aaron Rodgers just four plays into the game, were defeated by the Dallas Cowboys 30-10. Quarterback Zach Wilson continued his struggles, throwing three interceptions and the lone offensive touchdown coming on a 68-yard bomb to Garrett Wilson. The defense is still strong, but the offense will get in the way if they don’t upgrade at quarterback.

Week 3 AFC East matchups:

  • Miami Dolphins (2-0) vs. Denver Broncos (0-2)
  • New York Jets (1-1) vs. New England Patriots (0-2)
  • Buffalo Bills (1-1) vs. Washington Commanders (2-0)
