Aerospace giant Airbus releases statement on Boris Johnson's Brexit deal

Aerospace giant Airbus has released a statement after the news Boris Johnson had secured a new Brexit deal with the EU.

The latest Brexit deal between the UK and EU was struck on Thursday before a meeting of EU leaders in Brussels.

This Saturday the UK Prime Minister will attempt to secure enough support to get the deal through Parliament with the Democratic Unionist Party not backing the deal.

Airbus employs 13,500 people in UK and 110,000 people in the UK supply chain.

A source from Airbus said that without DUP support that its was "hard to see" how it gets through Parliament.

A spokesman added: "We remain concerned by a potential ‘no-deal’ and we continue to plan for that scenario as that is the only way any responsible business can plan.   

"Airbus continues to run its major Brexit project in order to further eradicate and/or mitigate risks.

"We continue to look for further clarity, and the removal of uncertainty, as soon as possible, so that Airbus can properly plan for the future.

"As a major employer with 13,500 people in UK, 110,000 people in the UK supply chain and a turnover in the UK of £6 billion, the shape of the future EU/UK relationship remains of critical importance for Airbus and its employees."
