Aerospace engineer, 47, who survived months in ICU dies three months later 'after never recovering' from Covid symptoms

A coronavirus patient who survived for months in intensive care in Blackpool has died three months later after "never recovering" from the effects of the condition.

Roehl Ribaya spent 60 days in Blackpool Victoria Hospital's ICU before being discharged on August 14.

However, the 47-year-old Filipino aerospace engineer suffered cardiac arrest on October13, dying two days later. His secondary cause of death was given as post-Covid pulmonary fibrosis.

His widow, nurse Stella Ricio-Ribaya, told the BBC that he was "taken too soon".

She added: "He was never the same. He was so breathless all the time.

"Please follow the government's advice so we can stop this virus.

"We don't want any more to die."

Angela Delajaban, a close friend of Mr Ribaya's family, has set up a Go Fund Me page to raise money for the funeral costs and other expenses.

She wrote on the page that Covid-19 is a "silent killer".

Another friend said: "It was long Covid. His breathing was never the same and he couldn't get up the stairs."
