Aerospace company Ontic reports 'record-breaking' year

Aerospace parts manufacturer Ontic has heralded 2022 as a “record-breaking” year for the firm, and has said further expansion is planned for 2023.

The Gloucestershire-based business, which provides its services to a range of commercial and military customers including Airbus and Boeing Defense, said it had secured 13 exclusive licensing agreements over the previous 12 months.

The firm, which has global operations across Asia, Europe and the US, said it had integrated its facility in Staverton - acquired from rival Triumph Group at the end of 2021 - into one of its main production sites. From the base the group is supporting aircraft such as the Saab Gripen, the Airbus A330 and the BAE Hawk.

It added that it had also made “multi-million dollar investments” in its American operations, adding 20,000 sq ft to its Creedmoor site in North Carolina, and it doubled the size of the local team over the last two years.

Ontic said its Chatsworth facility in California will also undergo further improvements in 2023 to create more production floor space to boost capacity.

The business recruited more than 350 staff globally last year and has grown its UK early careers programme by 300%, with this set to double again over the next year. It will also launch an apprentice programme in the US in 2023.

Chief executive Gareth Hall said: “2022 was a tremendous success for the company as a whole and for our people. Against the backdrop of the covid pandemic and global supply chain challenges, we have continued to thrive, growing our team to more than 1,000 people and securing new licences to support customers around the globe.

“2023 will see continued expansion, and we will invest even more in both our early careers programs and our overall global recruitment strategy.”

Established more than 45 years ago, Ontic also has UK sites in Cheltenham and Bolton.
