Aerodynamicist David Sanchez Leaves Mclaren After Organizational Changes

David Sanchez departs McLaren after just three months.

Aerodynamicist David Sanchez has departed from McLaren just three months after being heralded as a significant signing by the Formula One team in their quest to reclaim the top spot in the sport. The Frenchman's exit was confirmed by McLaren in a recent statement outlining internal changes within the team.

Sanchez had joined McLaren from Ferrari in January, where he had been on 'gardening leave' for nearly a year, assuming the role of technical director for car concept and performance. However, McLaren revealed that they were restructuring the position to focus more on performance aspects.

Team principal Andrea Stella will temporarily take over Sanchez's responsibilities until a permanent replacement is appointed. Rob Marshall, who arrived at McLaren from Red Bull at the same time as Sanchez, has been promoted to chief designer. Additionally, Neil Houldey has been named the new technical director for engineering.

In a statement addressing Sanchez's departure, Stella stated, 'Following thoughtful discussions between David Sanchez and the team leadership, the mutual decision has been made for David to leave the team. It became evident upon reflection that the role, responsibilities, and aspirations associated with David's position did not align with our initial expectations when he joined us in February 2023.'

McLaren, currently holding the third position in the constructors' standings with drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, is gearing up for the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka this weekend.
