Aerial photos released as Disney's stunning new Star Wars theme park near completion

Aerial photos have been released of Disney World's hotly anticipated new Star Wars theme park.

The photos reveal that the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride is nearly finished.

The 100ft long spaceship is an exact replica of the ship from the film franchise, and will transform visitors into Han Solo’s “crew” for a few minutes.

During their four hours in the “out-of-this-world land” guests will be able to build their own lightsaber, sip on the blue milk Luke Skywalker famously drank in the movies, design a droid and grab refreshments at Oga’s Cantina, “where bounty hunters, smugglers, rogue traders, and weary travellers of all ages come together to refuel, enjoy music, and conduct meetings – no questions asked.”

One of the star attractions. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, is not due to open until “later this year”, Disney has announced.

The ride will see visitors become “captives” on a Star Destroyer, from which they will need to escape, crossing paths with characters including Kylo Ren and BB-8.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is scheduled to open on May 31 at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, and on August 29 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida.

The development at Disney’s flagship park in Orlando is rumoured to have cost $1billion and spans 14-acres.

For the first three weeks after opening, guests will need to reserve a place in advance and will be restricted to four-hour time slots inside the new “land”.

The time limit will help prevent excessive queues and congestion, according to a Disneyland spokesperson.

Those who are staying at one of Disneyland’s hotels will receive a slot as part of their booking, while other visitors can book online from 2 May.

Visitors planning a peak time trip to Galaxy’s Edge, on a weekend in summer, should expect to pay £115 per ticket, while standard entry will cost around £80.
