AEK Athens to make swoop to save Nelson Oliveira from Norwich City bomb squad

AEK Athens have reportedly made an approach for snubbed Norwich City forward Nelson Oliveira.

The former Nottingham Forest loanee has been left in the dark by the Canaries this summer after returning from a loan spell with Reading.

After just 10 appearances at the Madejski Stadium, during which he became a popular figure for the Royals, he returned to Norfolk without a permanent offer, as Reading continue to battle a 'soft transfer embargo'.

Reading boss Jose Gomes had expressed his desire to keep Oliveira in Berkshire for the upcoming season, but off-field problems out of his control have made any move improbable.

Last week it was reported that his wages had risen to 'between £20,000 and £30,000-per-week' following Norwich's promotion to the Premier League, and on Wednesday the club announced their squad numbers ahead of the new campaign with Oliveira one of the notable absentees.

Now AEK Athens say they are prepared to match that salary for a season-long loan, according to Greek publication Iapropsi, but are also open to a permanent deal.

Oliveira scored nine goals in 29 appearances during his time at the City Ground and bagged popular goals for the Reds  against Derby County and Leeds United.
