AED40 Bn in Trade Between Dubai, Germany in 2017

The total value of trade between the Emirate of Dubai and Germany reached AED40 billion in 2017, Dubai customs said according to a 2017 statistics.

Director of Dubai Customs, Ahmed Mahboob Musabih met with Consul-General of Germany in the emirate Gunter Rauer to discuss cooperation between Dubai customs and German consulate, as well as enhancing cooperation to support trade exchange between both countries.

The two discussed means of boosting cooperation between Germany and Dubai especially in bilateral trade and customs business. The meeting was also attended by Director of Corporate Communication Department at Dubai Customs Khalil Saqer bin Gharib.

Musabih stated that it is very important for Dubai to boost ties of partnership with German diplomatic missions and business councils.

"We have priorities which include delivering a leading customs expertise to the world," he said.

"Germany is an important trade partner to Dubai. The total value of mutual non-oil trade in 2017 was AED40 billion," announced the Director.

Enhancing trade ties with the partners will help them receive the best customs facilitation which will add great value to their business, according to Musabih, who added that there are many active German companies in the UAE, and the Customs help them benefit from its product and service offerings.

For his part, the German Consul Rauer applauded Dubai Customs’ efforts in supporting national economy and developing tourism and trade, stating that Dubai is a world-class trade and tourism hub and a central link between the East and West.

Meanwhile, Germany's imports of honey have increased to cover consumer demand, according to the latest statistics released on Saturday.

Hamburg's honey trade association announced that German imports of honey increased last year by 4.7 percent to 87,800 tonnes at 259 million euros.

Germany became the largest importer of honey among EU countries last year.

The average consumption of honey in Germany is about one kilogram a year, a fixed rate for many years. Germany's honey production can't cover the domestic demand. In 2017, Germany produced 26,000 tons of honey, less than a quarter of the volume of consumption.

Argentina, Mexico and Ukraine are the leading exporters of honey to Germany from outside the European Union, providing about half the amount of honey consumed in Germany. Germany also imports honey from Cuba and China, as well as countries within the EU such as Hungary, Bulgaria, Spain, Romania, and Italy.
