AECS blockchain platform to fund small companies

AEC Securities (AECS) is cooperating with Blockchain Asset Management and Capital Trust Group to offer a new investment platform using blockchain technology to capture investment funding sources for small companies.

Chief executive Chanachai Joonjiraporn said the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the two companies to provide a new trading platform and launch the first proprietary trading for investors in Thailand.

The company will bring fintech developed by Capital Trust Group under the proprietary trading model to facilitate investment incentives, Mr Chanachai said.

The partnership will cover new technology and know-how to create new investment services with the help of blockchain, social trading, proprietary trading and iBillionaire, a web and iPhone-based investing platform.

The new investment platform can invest in both physical and digital investment assets spanning Europe, America and Asia-Pacific.

Blockchain and fintech can support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), startups, university students, retirees and the disabled, providing them with investment knowledge and earnings, he said.

Mr Chanachai said the company expects to register a net profit this year supported by the new business model, with a focus on fee-based income from non-brokerage businesses such as investment banking and financial advisory services.

The company had a cumulative loss of more than 100 million baht and hopes to clear the net loss in coming periods, he said.

"We are positioning ourselves to be a fintech hub providing blockchain, fintech tools and tech stock analysis," Mr Chanachai said.

Parin Sathianpagilanagorn, co-founder of Capital Trust Group, said blockchain will help SMEs build their contacts and raise funds via utility tokens in global markets.

SMEs need to have inventoried products in order to develop utility tokens, Mr Parin said.

These SMES can also become AECS' target for IPOs in the future, he said.

For proprietary trading, Capital Trust Group will provide training for investors interested in social trading.
