On Thursday, while hearing a case on prioritising the Covid vaccine for the legal community, the Supreme Court orally observed that while "advocates find it very difficult not to meet people", it did not think that journalists "has to come into contact with people", LiveLaw reported.
The statement came in response to solicitor general Tushar Mehta, who asked how to "distinguish" between professions to gauge who should receive priority while being vaccinated.
"Tomorrow, journalist also make a similar demand," Mehta said. "They also come into contact with people, perhaps more than lawyers."
Chief Justice of India SA Bobde replied: "We don't know how journalists work. But we don't think a journalist has to come into contact with people. Advocates find it very difficult not to meet people."
The hearing ended with Mehta agreeing to place the legal fraternity's representations before an expert committee that had formulated vaccination criteria.
