Advice warning continues on St Helens blaze

A C-130 Hercules waterbomber dropped retardant on Friday, ahead of the warm weekend.

Fire crews are "reasonably confident" they're getting the upper hand over a bushfire burning on Tasmania's east coast.

The blaze near Argonaut Road, about 10 kilometres west of St. Helens, has burnt more than 7,500 hectares.

Advice Alerts have been issued for Upper Scamander, Powers road, Siamese road, Terryvale road and surrounding areas.

Incident controller John Hazzlewood said progress was being made, but the community should remain vigilant.

"Our crews have been working hard over the last week to contain the fire, and we've got a reasonable edge down on the southern edge, which has been pushed by the north-westerly winds, and we're reasonably confident of holding it at that edge," he said.

"Upper Scamander is the first that could get impacted.

"Then moving along the coast, along the back of Scamander, and it could go as far as Cornwall."

It is believed the blaze started from a scrub burn on a private property last week.
