Adventurous dog who travelled by train from Kildare to Dublin reunited with owner

The owners of a plucky dog who travelled from Kildare to Dublin on a train on his own yesterday morning have been found.

The adventurous pup boarded the 08:46 train in Sallins and got off at Heuston Station where he was found by Irish Rail staff.

An appeal was then issued for the owner to come forward with the story of the dog, who staff named Hamish, going viral.

Several people came forward to claim ownership of 'Hamish' who was put in the care of animal charity My Lovely Horse Rescue.

Irish Rail said yesterday: "A few people have got in contact claiming ownership so we are just waiting to see and verify who the owners are.

"My Lovely Horse charity, which normally deals with horses, has offered to help out and have been contacted by a lot of people on social media.

"Nothing definite yet but we're hopeful of finding the owners soon."

The pup spent the night with a volunteer from My Lovely Horse.

The charity were so overwhelmed with enquiries about the pup that they closed their appeal.

But luckily, they managed to find the real owner and it turns out that 'Hamish's' real name is Tyson.

Irish Rail tweeted the good news this evening.

They said: Hamish update! His owners have been found! His real name is Tyson!

Social media users reacted with delight at the news, with one saying: "I literally followed this account to hear this news . Delighted now."

While several people asked: "Are you issuing him with his own Leap Card?"

Tyson will be reunited with his family in the coming days.

Irish Rail thanked the public for their incredible support in helping to find Tyson's owner.

And Tyson's incredible story capturing the hearts of a nation, rail chiefs joked: "The movie rights are exorbitant!"
