Adventures in Wonderland is set to spring surprises in County Durham this March

The weird and wonderful world of Alice in Wonderland is the inspiration behind a new outdoor event preparing to launch in County Durham this spring.

Beamish Hall Hotel has taken Lewis Carroll's much-loved children's tale as the theme for Adventures in Wonderland - the second in its socially-distanced family events, following the success of its Forest of Light which attracted more than 20,000 visitors throughout December.

The plan is for it to launch in March and run until May and - in the hope the current lockdown will have lifted - the themed woodland adventure is promising to be just the kind of escapist fun that families will need after months stuck at home.

Tickets are already on sale for Adventures in Wonderland which is inviting visitors to explore "down the rabbit hole" and it will be filled, says the hotel, with "strange creatures, eye-popping mad mazes and giant white rabbits".

December's winter-themed Forest of Light took place in the Beamish hotel grounds while the North East was under Tier 3 restrictions, having received the go-ahead from local authorities that it was safe enough for families to socially distance there and still enjoy the event.

Sales manager Lauren Colledge said: "We have had to adapt to the new world of the coronavirus whilst still maintaining strict regulations in line with Government guidelines.

"We're so excited to be able to launch a second family event based in our magical woodland area and be able to offer a safe fun day out."

Various dates are now available to book throughout March, April and May with slots starting at 10am and last entry being at 3pm.

Tickets cost £6 - while under-ones can be taken along for free - and they can be bought here.
