Adventures in vegan eating, a Canadian bucket list and more

A variety of reports show veganism is on the rise around the world, and Baum plus Whiteman, a food and restaurant consultancy in New York, says plant-based foods are the trend of 2018. Intrepid Travel is jumping on the vegan wagon by offering three new trips for 2019 dubbed Vegan Food Adventures. The trips _ in India, Thailand and Italy _ are aimed at culinary-minded travelers who are already on a vegan diet or who would like to try it out. In each destination, travelers will find hot spots for vegan meals and also get lessons in vegan cooking. Intrepid's specialty is adventure travel, so accommodations are modest and travelers get good exposure to the local culture. On the Thailand trip, for example, participants experience traveling on an overnight sleeper train from Ayutthaya to Chiang Mai and do a homestay in a small Thai village where travelers help prepare a traditional khantohk menu, which consists of 11 dishes. This tour includes sampling street food and browsing local markets. The tour, like the other two, is eight days and seven nights. It's priced at just $1,265 per person, double occupancy. The India tour, which visits the Golden Triangle, is priced from $1,160, and the Italy tour, ranging from Venice to Rome, is from $2,610.
