Advanced metrics offer plenty of hype for Redskins UDFA B.J. Blunt

#Redskins LB B.J. Blunt (@beedoe8_), who was a UDFA, had quite the year at @McNeeseFootball:

-91.7 overall grade, good for 2nd highest in the draft class.

-16.3% run stop percentage, also 2nd best.

-Allowed 0.32 yards per snap in coverage, 7th best. #HTTR

Linebackers are a sour topic for the Washington Redskins in the wake of the Reuben Foster injury.

But it isn’t all bad. The Redskins have promising prospects on the roster like Shaun Dion-Hamilton. And looking a bit further down the depth chart, an undrafted name like B.J. Blunt sticks out.

Blunt was one of those college free agents many were surprised to see slip to the open market. And some of the metrics from Pro Football Focus show why: he graded incredibly well and besides stopping the run, he also stood out by holding up well in coverage.

Few players are going to be able to step in and have the impact Foster would have had next season. But Blunt is at least one of those longshot guys who could end up making a serious push for the final roster.
