Advance Australia Fair with hiccups: boy braves anthem in baseball video

Australian boy hiccups through national anthem at baseball game

A seven-year-old boy with a poorly timed case of the hiccups has won the hearts of sports fans around the world with his courageous rendition of Advance Australia Fair.

Ethan Hall had the job of singing the Australian national anthem at a baseball match between the Adelaide Bite and Brisbane Bandits at Cooper’s stadium in Adelaide on Friday night.

Despite his predicament the impeccably dressed Ethan took a deep breath as the music struck up, then launched into the song. He made it through – hiccuping all the way but otherwise remarkably composed – before receiving a big round of applause and cheers from the crowd.

Players lined up to high-five Ethan as he left the field. Game commentators praised his “priceless” performance and “absolutely fantastic” job.

“Well done Ethan,” the Australian Baseball League posted on its Facebook page.
