Adura Onashile: Giving voice to unheard stories from Black British history

ENCORE! © FRANCE 24

She started her career on the stage, but now Adura Onashile is bringing depth, nuance and suspense to contemporary drama behind the scenes as a director. Her film "Expensive Shit" started life as an award-winning play at the Edinburgh Fringe before her adaptation of it for the screen made its way to the Glasgow Short Film festival.

Onashile tells us more about using the tools of cinema to create a multi-layered story and how the power dynamic between characters in one Scottish nightclub allowed her to explore complex issues around class, gender and race.

We also hear more about her immersive theatre project "Ghosts", which takes the audience into the streets of Glasgow, uncovering unknown elements of the city's historical relationship with the slave trade.
